Gold Prices Drop Further in Pakistan

Gold prices took a hit in Pakistan on Thursday, following the dip in global markets. In local trading, gold dropped by Rs. 3,500 per tola, landing at Rs. 433,862. The All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association says 10 grams of gold slipped by Rs. 3,001, settling at Rs. 371,966. And just a day earlier, prices had already tumbled by Rs. 7,538 per tola, falling to Rs. 437,362.

Gold prices dropped in the international market today. According to APGJSA, gold is now at $4,115 per ounce, down $35, with a $20 premium tacked on.

Silver didn’t budge — it’s still at Rs. 5,110 per tola.

So what’s going on? Gold slipped a bit more on Thursday, mostly because the dollar got stronger. Investors are waiting for key US inflation numbers coming up this week; those numbers could shift interest rates one way or another. Around 0310 GMT, spot gold was sitting at $4,084.29 per ounce, down 0.2%.

But US gold futures for December actually went up 0.9%, landing at $4,100.90 per ounce.
